WebbAll P fertilization treatments reduced the total bacterial diversity (Shannon index). However, only P200 decreased the number of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) with the 16S rRNA gene, and no P fertilization treatments affected phoD-harboring bacterial OTUs or diversity when compared to those in the PO treatment. WebbphoD-harboring microbes might reuse the intracellular P when P is depleted. As a homologous gene encoding microbial alkaline phosphomonoesterase, the expression of phoD is critically controlled by P availability and thus contributes to the mineralization of soil organic P under P-depleted condition.
